Thank you for making this website. I am confused by the speakers. I think the Project G used perforated 18” spun aluminum globes whereas the G2 seem to use solid aluminum with just a slotted. Center. I have to wonder what the sound quality is with such a small opening? Do you know what type of speakers are inside?

Your timing is also funny, as I am planning to add more resources this month (some information on how the speakers come apart, what components were used, updating the components for better audio quality, etc.).
So, to your question… you are correct. The Project G speaker housing was a perforated thin shell, while the G2 is a thicker cast aluminum with a thin opening running the N/S meridian. I have actually replaced the original grill cover (keeping the original in a safe place) with copper screen, purely for aesthetic reasons. I believe Clairtone used Wharfdale speakers (this information is from memory of forum talk; I will be tracking confirmed information down soon). I have recently been struggling with getting “good sound” from my G2. My G2 came to me with no original turntable or integrated amp (there were “upgraded” stereo components). I have replaced the “upgraded” turntable with a factory-appropriate Garrard Lab80, and I have been experimenting with various amps that will work with the shallow center cabinet. I feel like I have done enough component swapping (turntable, amp, phono pre-amp, external speakers, etc.) to confirm that the Lab 80 sounds great, but the speakers in the orb housings are the weak link. I am planning on swapping them out soon to see if I can confirm this. When I do this, I will first do a little exploration with the placement of the insulation in the orb housings to see how much affect that has on the sound. I will also check capacitors, drivers, etc., used in conjunction with the three speakers in each orb (I have not yet checked to see if any of those items might be why the sound coming out of the speakers is of such poor quality).
